Liam's Story

Liam is a very fit and healthy 16 year old lad.

He got diagnosed with T CELL Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia on the 2nd of April. Two weeks prior to this he was caving at cheddar gorge and then hiking and camping in the Mendips.

He would go to school, straight to the gym then come home and revise for his GCSES. He was always on the go.

The week before he got diagnosed Liam said didn’t feel great and had a few dizzy spells. That week he got worse and was told he had tonsillitis. I feared it was meningitis that was going around. I was told it wasn’t anything serious and just a viral thing.

As a mum I knew it was more so we went back and saw a different doctor who agreed he wasn’t well so we went straight to hospital. Within hours he was diagnosed. Definitely not the result we had expected.

But my determined strong minded boy never gave up. He accepted his diagnosis and said he wanted to sit all of his exams. He did. He battled through intensive treatment and went to school. He went to prom and pushed through.

We have had a few complications including a very rare and severe reaction to some anti sickness tablets but again Liam has pushed through it all. His positive attitude is what is getting me through.

He’s made plans to start A levels in September and learn to drive. He is determined to live as normal life as he can. He definitely deserves this little break.
