Ellie's Story

Firstly we welcome Ellie (now 19) and her family from Somerset.

Ellie was diagnosed last July 2026 with T-cell ALL.

We had taken Ellie to the GP a few times as she had a nasty cough, was a little wheezy and struggling to catch her breath. When she didn’t get any better we took her to A and E. They performed an X-ray and immediately told us that she had a large tumour on her lung.

She was admitted to intensive care as the tumour was pressing on her heart - hence the shortness of breath.
Ellie was then transferred
to another hospital which had a dedicated Haematology department.

She spent 9 months in this ward having intensive chemotherapy.
The team at Ward 9 were wonderful, they kept her spirits up and looked after her so wonderfully.

She is now home and in her maintenance phase and she is due to start University in September (she missed the start date last year) and has been enjoying spending time with her 3 siblings and doing all the things that she has missed over the last year.

Ellie has been incredible throughout this journey, her resilience has been inspirational. She hasn’t once felt sorry for herself even after hair-loss, lots of prodding and all that comes with intensive chemotherapy, she has taken every procedure head on.

We have all learnt to be so grateful for what we have and enjoy the little things with so much excitement and we no longer sweat over the little times that really don’t matter.

We are so lucky to call this tough kid our own 😉
