Amos's Story

Amos was a very healthy active energetic wild little 6 year old who loved life!

He developed a cough around the middle of Feb 2023 but we just thought it was a normal cough like lots of children have in winter. The cough went on for a while and we took him to the doctors a couple of times who diagnosed him with a chest infection.

He had a course of antibiotics but that didn’t clear the cough, so we went back again and they prescribed another set of antibiotics which were then unavailable. By this time we had noticed that Amos was getting very breathless and tired very easily and the easiest tasks like putting his socks on, were too much for him.

We took him to A&E the day after we couldn’t get the prescribed antibiotics because his breathing wasn’t right.

They then did an X-ray which was abnormal so did a CT scan which confirmed a mass across his chest.

Amos was transfered to GOSH where he was diagnosed with ALL the next day. We spent 10 days in GOSH where he had lumber punctures, started steroids and chemo and we were then discharged back to our local hospital in Romford to continue treatment there and in GOSH each week.

Amos had his port fitted a few days after we returned home and was doing well, but suddenly on the morning of 4th April at home, he went into cardiac arrest. At hospital they tried to save him but everything happened so fast and they couldn’t.

We waited 3 months for the post mortem which then confirmed a pulmonary embolism.

Everything happened very fast and was extremely traumatic especially for our daughter who had just turned 4 at the time.

We have since had another daughter (she turns 2 in a couple of weeks) and they both bring us so much joy, but it is incredibly hard without Amos 💜

We have good and bad days and are just trying to live life to the fullest like Amos would have liked us to do, when we heard about the Ben Saunders Foundation we got in touch and are so looking for to this break away.
