Jess's Story
Jess's family visited the Lodge in June 2025.

On Saturday June 15th 2024, Jess was rushed into RUH A&E in excruciating pain coming from her right abdominal side and what we thought might have been appendicitis.
The doctor have a feel and check her stomach which felt rock solid at the time so they were concerned and ran a few different blood tests and she was admitted to hospital.
We had noticed over a bit of time that Jess’ weight had increased but not expecting it to be anything other than just putting on weight.
Sunday 16th Jess had an Ultrasound and CT scan and spent another night in hospital before an MRI on Monday 17th where they found a mass on her left ovary (cyst). The pain she felt on the Saturday was the ruptured cyst. Jess was taken down for emergency surgery for the removal of her left ovary, cyst, fillopian tube, appendix, stomach tissue and left kidney which was already non functional. The tumerous cyst that was removed weighed 4.5kg and was 27cm in width.
Jess then spent the next 8 days in hospital unable to eat or drink due to complications with the anaesthetic.
On July 10th 2024, Jess was digonosed with Endometrioid Ovarian Cancer and which had stemmed from undiagnosed Endometriosis and a condition called Ohvria Syndrome.
Jess then had begin treatment to freeze her eggs in the right ovary before starting her course of Chemotherapy Treatment. She also had injections every 4 weeks to shut down the working ovary as Chemotherapy can have effects on the function of the ovaries. This then lead Jess to had early menopause which brought on struggling to sleep, hot sweats and anxiety. Her oncology specialist were amazing and so helpful during the time. Along with her consultant and surgeon.
Jess started her Chemotherapy in September and had sessions every 3 weeks on Fridays at the Dyson centre in RUH. Her last session of treatment was in January 2025. Jess had 2 lots of different treatment for Chemotherapy- Carboplatin and Paclitaxel.
She had another CT scan in February and was then given the all clear. Jess is still recovering and continues to be her happy bubbly self throughout it all 😊
All the team at the Dyson centre were so supportive during Jess’ time there.
Huge thank you to BSF for this break away, we loved the ball and hope to attend again.
