Harry's Story

Harry's family visited the Cotswolds in July 2025.

Our son, Harry aged 12 at the time, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in June 2024.

He didn’t really have any classic symptoms, was just a bit tired with aches and pains which we put down to growing pains for a few weeks.

Pains got slightly worse which triggered a trip to the GP who couldn’t see much wrong but referred us for a blood test. Less than 24 hours later, our GP called to say that we needed to take Harry out of school immediately and go to Manchester Children’s Hospital where haematology were expecting us.

The next day he was formally diagnosed.
Our lives turned upside down in a second. We were devastated as a whole family but we were determined to fight it every step of the way.

Treatment for AML is relatively short but extremely toxic. Harry endured 4 rounds of toxic chemotherapy and then a stem cell transplant due to the high risk mutation of AML he was diagnosed with. 6 months later, we returned home where life is getting back on track.

Harry has returned to school and sports and we live for each and every day.

Harry still requires close monitoring with regular blood tests and visits at Manchester but to this day he remains in remission 🙏

We cannot wait for the break and thank everyone at Bens foundation for this opportunity.
