Harrison's Story

Harrison's family visited the Lodge in August 2025.

Feb 2024 Harrison found a lump and off we went to the doctors thinking nothing of it really, maybe a cyst was our thoughts.

Referral to our local hospital in Feb. A couple of scans and doctors and some confusion around it but still not worried.

We got referred to Manchester Children’s hospital in April and then it was all very fast.

Harrison had the lump/tumour removed through a long surgery and then the call we never thought.

It was cancer and we needed to go into Manchester. (Our naive brains thought so it’s been removed we are good, it’s been a close call but it’s fine) oh how wrong.

Then the meetings, another surgery showed it had spread to his lymph nodes, it was a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. He would need intensive chemo starting asap.

He would have chemo and in the middle would have 6 weeks of Proton Beam therapy.

Me and Harrison needed to move to Manchester for 6 weeks for proton. Nothing could have prepared us for how ill the chemotherapy would make him.

He was so weak he needed feeding tubes, transfusions and injections to try and recover his bloods.

Missing school and friends for a year. Harrison finished chemo in May 2025 and has started to get stronger. The future is quite unknown for him as even after a year of treatment he still has a 50% chance of it returning. (We can not talk about the odds if it does return😔)

We are so excited about this break away amd thank everyone from Ben Saunders Foundation for making this possible
