Esther's Story

Esther's family visited the Cotswolds in July 2025.

In January 2024 our daughter Esther (4 at the time) was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

We had been concerned about Esther’s health for around 5 weeks prior to diagnosis but a few GP appointments just confirmed she seemed to have another virus.

However, we knew there was something wrong and were particularly concerned with how tired and pale she was, cancer had never crossed our minds though. At the start of her journey Esther received a few blood transfusions, had her central line fitted and started her chemotherapy all within a few days which was such a whirlwind.

Esther has been receiving treatment since then and we are so proud of how she has handled everything. All the children/ young people on the oncology ward and day care just amaze and inspire us, so brave and resilient ❤️

There have been lots of ups and downs in this journey and it took Esther almost a year to get through her ‘frontline treatment’ due to being in a higher risk group and receiving extra chemotherapy. She has also received immunotherapy as part of the trial.

In January this year Esther started ‘maintenance’ which will continue until around February 2026. This has still come with its ups and downs but generally we have appreciated being able to get into a bit more of a routine and Esther has gradually increased her time at school which she loves! ☺️
Esther also had her central line removed in January due to an infection which although came with new challenges (getting used to having a cannula for treatment) this has given her more freedom and again we are proud of how she has handled the change.

Thank you so much Ben Saunders Foundation, we are really looking forward to this break away 💕 after this past year and a half we will really appreciate some family time away from the busyness of life and hospital trips! Thank you 🥰
