Edens's Story

Edens's family visited Ben's Retreat in August 2025.

Just a few days after her 14th Birthday, an aggressive growth was discovered in Eden's right thigh. It was during the first lockdown and Eden's was eagerly awaiting the birth of the baby sister she desperately wanted to meet.

Just over a month later Eden started chemotherapy for osteosarcoma, which had already spread to her lungs. Just 4 days later her baby sister Faora was born via emergency C-section.

In the October of 2020 Eden had limb salvage surgery to remove an 18 cm mass from her thigh and have an endoprosthesis put in.

April 2021 Eden finished her treatment and looked forward to returning to some sort of normal life. Yet just 6 weeks later she was told of her first relapse and needed a thoracotomy to remove several masses from her left lung.

This was the first of several relapses, more in both lungs and even her foot.

She tried another course of chemotherapy, but after 2 rounds it was discovered that the chemotherapy was feeding the cancer and in March 2022 we were told that Eden had just a few months left with us.

Another thoracotomy was done on the left lung, and they had to remove 40% of the lung. This was to make Eden more comfortable.

Eden went on to still sit her GCSEs and went to prom. She managed an amazing 5 C's and 5 B's. Then applied to go to college to study animal care.

At the same time she tried an oral chemotherapy drug that slowed down the growth of the cancer, in the hope of giving her more time. She ended up doing 3 years in college studying animal care.

Unfortunately before the final year finished, we'd been told that there were 3 new masses and so Eden had 25 rounds of radiotherapy.

Then more masses appeared and kept appearing, and her oncologist had to tell us that there now was nothing more that he could do for Eden. So he had to tell us that Eden just has a matter of months left with us.

These months are now getting fewer and fewer. Eden is slowing down and has weekly visits from the hospice palliative care team.

To date she has 19 masses that we KNOW of, it's unknown what others are currently hiding.

As well as a little sister who plans on being an oncologist (she's only 5), Eden has an 8 year old brother who is struggling knowing that his amazing big sister is going to leave us.
Eden is now 19 and we doubt she'll get to 20
