Ollie's Story
Ollie's family visited the Cotswolds in July 2024.
Ollie had been feeling tired more than a 4-year-old should and was falling asleep straight after school and sleeping till the next morning which led to him missing meals. He then started to have pain in his legs and we knew something wasn’t right.
He was being treated for anemia with an adult dose of iron which was making no difference to his iron level.
He was finally diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) in May 2023 at Gloucester hospital and was sent straight to Bristol Childrens Hospital where his treatment would begin.
Our world felt like it was falling apart, and we had no idea what the future might hold.
He started chemotherapy but had a reaction to one of the medications causing a 9-minute seizure which he didn’t wake up from for 24 hours. He then lost mobility and had to have extensive physio to help walk again.
Ollie has made both his Mum and Dad very proud and remained strong and happy throughout his treatment and hospital stays and always gives a cheeky smile and thumbs up to everyone he meets.
12 months after starting treatment he is in maintenance treatment and is finally able to return to school after missing most of the first year and according to his teacher he is the happiest one in the class.
We are all very grateful to Ben Saunders Foundation for this break away, a chance to spend time as a normal family for a few days and it is something nice for Ollie to look forward too.
