Lily's Story

Lily's family visited the Cotswolds in June 2024.

In September 2023 I was involved in a minor car accident. After the accident I struggled with back pain but despite having 8 sessions of physio my back was getting worse.

I visited the doctors a few times and my pain was put down as muscle damage. In January I started to be sick and lose weight so the doctors arranged blood tests.

In February this year I was diagnosed with cancer when I was just seventeen. I had a kidney and bone marrow biopsy at Nottingham QMC and was then transferred to Leicester Royal Infirmary Teenage Cancer Unit.

I started an intensive round of chemotherapy and have so far had 7 rounds. I was finally given a formal diagnosis in May, I have sarcomatoid type renal cell carcinoma which I have been told is extremely rare for someone of my age. I have a tumour in my kidney but unfortunately the cancer has spread to my back and lungs. The chemotherapy has made a slight improvement but last week I started immunotherapy treatment which hopefully will give me long term control.

Thank you for this break with my family.
