Freddie's Story
Freddie's family visited Ben's Retreat in May 2026.

Two years ago this weekend, our son Freddie, then 11, was busy enjoying sports every day after school, playing cricket, football, and had just found a love for rugby. He had started to struggle with back pain, and tiredness and a blood test revealed leukaemia.
From that phone call, everything changed! We travelled by ambulance to Leeds hospital, where Freddie spent almost two months, treatment has been absolutely gruelling.
Just this past week, Freddie has had an operation to remove his port as it had stopped working, along with blood transfusions he is due two high doses of treatment in May, with his end of treatment in June.
His brother is about to sit his GCSE exams next month, so life continues to be full on for us all.
Leaving Yorkshire feels like a huge achievement, this is the furthest we have travelled in over two years.
We are so incredibly grateful to Ben Saunders for giving us this opportunity to have some much-needed respite and time together as a family xx
