Evie’s Story

Evie’s family visited Ben's Retreat in November 2025.

In February, after weeks of battling a prolonged cough, Evie was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. At first, it was stage 3, but only weeks later we learned it had progressed to stage 4, spreading into her bones.

Evie was just 15 years old—a bright, happy teenager preparing for her exams, living the normal life of a schoolgirl. How do you tell a child that age she has cancer? We were devastated, and our worlds turned upside down over night, but Evie showed a strength beyond her years. She took the news in her stride and faced cancer head-on.

The journey was far from easy. Chemotherapy brought harsh side effects, leaving Evie with painful neuropathy and even a blood clot on her heart—something that will require open-heart surgery. Each obstacle was another mountain to climb, but Evie never gave up. We take each day as it comes, grateful for the gift of hope and the chance to breathe again.

Now, after months of treatment and countless hospital visits, and weeks on end of hospital stays, we are so thankful to say that Evie is in remission.

This respite break means the world to us—it gives Evie the chance to recover, to rediscover herself, and for us as a family to spend precious time together away from the hospital. Evie is obsessed with Clarkson’s farm and as a surprise we have booked her into the farmers dog 🐶 We are all so truly great full for letting us spend time together in your amazing lodge, you do an absolutely amazing job thank you so so much💕

Lots of love the Searcy’s 💕 xxx
