Sienna's Story

Sienna's family visited Ben's Retreat in October 2024.

Our daughter Sienna was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in April 2024. After weeks of her not being quite herself and cold like symptoms, we had assumed she had a viral infection. At the end of April multiple dark bruises and red blood spots appeared on her legs.

We took Sienna to children’s A&E in Bristol and after one look at her the doctors shared our concern it was Leukaemia.

The blood test confirmed the result and we stayed in the hospital for over two weeks. This is where Sienna had an operation for a port access.

Siennas blood & platelet results were worrying low, she immediately had transfusions for both.

Sienna started treatment within days of us being admitted, we were then told we would now be in intensive chemotherapy for the next 6 months.

Our little girl suddenly ballooned with the steroids, lost all of her hair and personality with the mood swings from the side effects.

For over a month she hardly walked, wanted to play or smiled.

Thankfully as the treatment changed Sienna has become more herself back to enjoying life and the smiles returned!

6 months in now and we still in intensive treatment until the end of December.

Sienna will then have maintenance treatment until June 2026.

It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey, we are very grateful to the Bristol Children’s Hospital who have given us the greatest care and support.

We also look forward to the much needed weekend away.
