Maria's Story
Maria's family visited the Lodge in September 2024.
When I was 34 weeks pregnant I found a lump on my left breast, we went to get it checked and I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.
Of course this was a massive shock to us. 2 weeks later I was force to be induced so that the treatment could start, our baby was born healthy and happy.
I went into surgery on my left breast 1 week after giving birth. I had 2 further surgeries since the first surgery as they didn’t get all the cancer, this was then followed by radiotherapy for 18 days.
This was an incredibly very hard period for us. My husband is self employed, he was having to take time off to take me and baby to our many appointments, treatments and led to him now working 7 day weeks trying to catch up.
It was putting us behind on bills and meant everything became a struggle, with everything that has happened over the last year with having my little baby Sofia and then having to deal with my cancer it will be amazing to be able to get away from it all.
This break will give us a chance to bond as a family and try move on from what has happened over the last few months.
Charities like the Ben Saunders Foundation are our only hope. We are ever so grateful.
I am currently waiting for my MRI schedule as they found another lump on my Abdomen
Many thanks 🙏
