Chris's Story

Chris's family visited Ben's Retreat in September 2024.

Hi, my name is Chris and I was diagnosed with ETP-ALL, a rare and aggressive form of blood cancer in October 2022, not long after my 25th birthday.

I underwent many different treatments, including an experimental immunotherapy which got me into remission before having a stem cell transplant in August 2023.

During my treatment I was paralysed from the waist down, contracted a rare lung infection and was told I had weeks left to live.

Luckily I recovered well enough to have my transplant and even learnt to walk again.

Life was just starting to get back to normal and I was just about to go back to work when I found out that I had sadly relapsed, 7 months post transplant.

I was put back on the immunotherapy that worked for me before and felt my old self again.

Unfortunately, it stopped working after a couple of months and there are no more treatment options left for me.

I am making the most of the time I have left with friends and family.

We look forward to this break at Bens retreat.
